Don’t trust everything you read. About a half hour north of Bogota is a very famous restaurant called Andrés Carne de Res, considered one of the many recommended things to do in Bogota. Yet, because of its distance from the city, we determined was too far for us to go. We resigned ourselves to missing this one. Well, last night we were having a beer at a local brewery in a Bogotá barrio called Zona Rosa and noticed that Andrés DC, an outpost of this famous restaurant, was right around the corner from us. Lonely Planet said it wasn’t worth it if you couldn’t go to the original. We threw aside our fears and ignored Lonely Planet. Good choice. We had a great time and a true Bogotá experience at Andrés DC!
AndrÉs CARNES DE RES
Anthony Bourdain has been to Andrés Carnes De Res and raved about it. The restaurant was established in 1982 as a roadside grill north of town, and now has outlets in multiple locations in Colombia. The original restaurant can seat up to 2,000 people at a time! As I said, it’s a long drive to get there so we dismissed the thought from our minds. You know I love Bourdain and try to visit places he’s recommended so was a little disappointed it was too far to visit so was really glad to see an option in the city!
WHY ANDRÉS DC IS SUCH AN EXPERIENCE
While not big enough for 2,000 people, Andrés DC is still a big place. Four stories of food, drinks, people, lights and music, it is also a feast for the eyes, ears and palate! Bogotá’s Zona Rosa is an upscale barrio with a lot of high end shops and restaurants and while most places were closed or just not that busy on a Sunday night, the brewery and Andrés DC across the street were both pretty crowded.
Andrés has a menu the size of a book, and is open from breakfast until 3am nightly. They pack them in here. And why not? The atmosphere is celebratory, their salsa music is lively, and the food is delicious!
Eating at andrés dc
Anthony Bourdain knew what he was talking about. We had a Bogotá experience at Andrés DC in no small part because of the delicious meats! The chicharrones were were the best I’ve ever had. We split a serving – if you are a fan of fried pork rinds wow!
We also enjoyed and a tenderloin with chimichurri sauce and salad. It was incredible. Glad we ignored our guidebook!

We took some photos of course. It was like a party inside Andrés DC and we are so glad we went. Good thing we did a big hike this morning to work off all the Bogotan food!
Visiting an Andres Restaurant
It is now easy to visit an Andres steakhouse in Colombia. We have seen locations throughout Bogota, and in Medellin and Cartagena. There are even takeout spots for quick and easy pickup. I do recommend dining in as visiting Andres DC in Bogota is a true Colombian experience.
